Scouts Open New Retail Experience Giving Back To SA Youth

A new retail experience at 134a The Parade, Norwood has been officially opened by the Premier of South Australia Hon Steven Marshall.   The stunning outlet set in an old Baptist church is more than a store, Exurbia – the Adventure Supply Co. is an investment by Scouts SA in the youth of South Australia.

Exurbia (the exurbs collectively, the area beyond the suburbs) is the reborn, reimagined and future face of the Scout Outdoor Centre, an icon of almost 40 years in Rundle Street that closed its doors in October.

Proceeds from Scouts business operations are put back into South Australian youth through Scouting and its other associated ventures such as Woodhouse Activity Centre which is enjoyed by thousands of school kids every year on school camps.  Furthermore, the investment by Scouts in amazing activities such as the labyrinth, tube slide, bouldering wall and upgrade to Challenge Hill have also seen Woodhouse become a hugely popular family destination on weekends and in school holidays.  It has also become an increasingly in-demand destination for ‘big kids’ as a corporate team bonding location.

This new venture will continue to be known for its high adventure gear and clothing, quality camping equipment and their expert advice from staff based on ‘lived experience’ in hiking, abseiling, climbing, mountaineering camping and more.  When in need of a pair of walking shoes, tent, sleeping bag backpack or comfortable clothing for whatever their adventure of choice, customers will have comfort in the knowledge, the person selling it has extensive experience in that outdoor past-time.

The new store will also feature the most desired brands for whatever the outdoor situation – from high adventure to being comfortable out climbing Mt Lofty, doing a coast walk, exercising the dog or sitting on the side-line of Saturday morning kid-sport in a warm jacket with an in-car coffee percolator. Must-have brands such as Patagonia (the Scout Outdoor Centre was SA’s largest retailer of Patagonia), One Planet, North-Face and Icebreaker will have concept stores within Exurbia.

James McLaren, Manager of Exurbia said ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather for outdoor adventure, just bad gear choices leading to less pleasant experiences’

Paul Dickson, Scouts SA President said “Through Exurbia, Scouts SA is making a significant investment over the next 3 years into the South Australian economy through this exciting new business venture.  Scouts SA is recognisably the outdoor adventure specialist and we are excited to share our expertise with all South Australians.”
