Join us for the SAHMRI luncheon, where their leading researchers will share why our diet really is the secret to a longer, happier, healthier life. From before we’re born to later in life, we are what we eat.
In an informal Q&A format, Professor Maria Makrides, SA Scientist of the Year will explain her work on the impact of nutrition for mums-to-be, on breast milk for babies, and the work being done to discover why so many children develop allergies to things like peanuts.
Andrew Shoubridge, whose research is being accelerated by funds from last year’s walk, will reveal why he’s studying the mechanism connecting gut microbiome and the brain, which could prove to play a significant role in preventing the onset of dementia.
One of Australia’s best-known culinary icons, Maggie Beer, will tell how the food we eat can impact brain health and general wellbeing in old age.
Our menu will be especially crafted to boost our health, too. Thanks to Maggie’s innate knowledge of what good food can do for everyone’s emotional wellbeing.

The BRIGHT Walk for a brighter future is an epic illuminated one-night experience that will challenge you to walk 15km at night in middle of winter.
Together we’ll show families living with life-threatening conditions that even in your darkest hour, you’re not alone. And we’ll raise $1 million to prove it.
