Meet the Member: Kytons Bakery

Kytons Bakery owners Sharon and Darren Sutton

You probably know Showcase SA member Kytons Bakery because of their famous lamingtons, sold at the Royal Adelaide Show and in community club fundraising boxes across the state.

The bakery was established in 1938 as Avon Catering, and the Hignett brothers transitioned to the name ‘Kytons’ before moving from its Penney Place home in the CBD to being a stall in the Central Market.

Current owners Darren and Sharon Sutton (pictured) took over the business and has remained within the same friendship circles since establishment.

They’re also a Showcase SA member and an active participant in the state’s food production, retail and wholesale sector.

From their Edwardstown production centre, they bake and distribute a range of tasty products across the state.

You can find out more about Kytons Bakery on their member directory listing.

Showcase SA spoke to Emma Sweet, Sales and Marketing Manager at Kytons to find out more about their business.

Q: What does Kytons Bakery do?

Kytons has been baking delicious goods in SA for over 80 years, we offer our premium range through wholesale, retail and fundraising.

Q: How long have you been in operation?

Q: How have you managed your business through COVID-19?

Kytons has adapted continually as COVID-19 changed on a daily basis. This year we have moved to packing individual fundraising orders for each group.

This has assisted community groups who can no longer bring volunteer groups together. We have added online offerings such as staff happy packs that were delivered directly to staff members working from home.

This was very popular around Easter where traditionally businesses would have supplied morning tea for staff.

Q: Why have you become a Showcase SA member?

We have joined Showcase SA to continue to work in with other SA businesses and be updated on what happening in other industries through the Industry Series.

We enjoy the opportunity to network with other businesses in SA. The social media workshops are always a great way to stay updated.

Q: How can Kytons Bakery help other Showcase SA members?

Kytons Bakery is most famous for our lamingtons. But we do so much more than that. We still offer community fundraising drives – helping hundreds of groups every year raise funds and this year we’ll even pack your individual orders so your volunteers don’t have to.
