On Monday, 17 February, Showcase South Australia took a group of our members to the Adelaide Airport for our Industry Behind The Scenes Tour on Trade & Investment.
The Adelaide Airport terminal expansion is the largest infrastructure project at the airport since the current terminal was opened in 2005. It will see a complete refurbishment of retail and dining areas and a significantly expanded international arrivals and departures footprint, with a completion date in late 2021.
Guests were given rare access to the construction site and a sneak preview of the first new retail areas that have now opened on February 26. The tour included a look at the new international departures hall and the soon-to-be-new home of the historic Vickers Vimy aircraft – the first plane to fly from England to Australia.
Mark Young, Adelaide Airport Managing Director, also spoke to us about the long term benefits of the expansion, what the new retail and dining precinct will look like, how the focus will be on SA brands within the retail precinct to promote the State, and other new facilities. He also provided a brief history of the Vickers Vimy and why it’s taking pride-of-place in the expanded terminal.
