A cutting-edge new secure sovereign cloud platform that enables local defence supply chain companies to store and manage highly sensitive information required by AUKUS and other defence programs, has been developed by South Australian cybersecurity leader Secure State.

An Australian-first, xClave – described as an ‘absolute game changer’ and critical business enabler for thousands of SMEs across the country – supports secure communication and collaboration with international AUKUS partners, ensuring critical defence information is protected from ever-changing cyber threats and espionage.

xClave will be the only platform in Australia that can simultaneously meet the complex cybersecurity regulations for handling information, such as Australian PROTECTED classified, US Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) required by the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program and UK Ministry of Defence Identifiable Information (MODII).

Secure State Founder and Creator Luke Smith said xClave was the only solution that addressed industry needs for holding US and UK related information, while meeting Australian regulatory and data sovereignty requirements.

“This revolutionary platform is an absolute game changer, ensuring the Australian defence supply chain remains secure and resilient in the face of evolving cyber threats,” said Mr Smith.

“By providing a secure, compliant, and cost-effective sovereign solution, xClave makes it easier for SMEs to meet their strict obligations within the AUKUS framework, enabling them to participate in critical projects and securely collaborate with partners, contributing to the security and technological advancement of Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

“This not only provides important peace of mind, but it also allows businesses to focus on innovation and growth – both in Australia and internationally – and unlocking lucrative opportunities within this vital sector.”

Congratulating Secure State on the launch of the platform, South Australian Minister for Defence and Space Industries Stephen Mullighan said the state is once again leading the way with an Australian-first technology solution for the defence industry.

“Addressing the cybersecurity challenges surrounding the AUKUS framework is crucial and it’s fantastic to see a South Australian-based company stepping up to deliver a leading solution that will support companies to protect sensitive information in a secure environment,” Minister Mullighan said.

“This Australian-first innovation opens up opportunities for collaboration and broader participation by local industry in AUKUS program projects. It is a testament to our state’s continued commitment to advancing technologies in support of Defence initiatives.”

Easy to use and cost-effective, with its user-friendly interface and infinite scalability, xClave is isolated in its own separate highly secure ‘bubble’ away from a company’s corporate environment that team members can access anywhere, at any time.

Because every working environment is isolated with a range of network segregation, software solutions and technical controls, it is specifically designed to prevent an accidental spill or compromise of sensitive data.

xClave has infinite scalability and is built to grow with an SME’s business and adapt to the everchanging global threat landscape,” said Mr Smith.

“It’s even accessible from a mobile phone, making it the ideal solution for any organisation looking to ensure secure communication and collaboration, regardless of its size or industry.”

Secure State, whose clients include major defence industry companies, has earned an enviable reputation over more than 3 years as an enabler of Australian defence supply chain SMEs through cybersecurity uplift.

Established in 2021, it became the first internationally Registered Practitioner Organisation able to offer consulting and implementation services for Australian businesses that require CMMC, and has since grown to a team of 15.

While commercial cloud platforms like Microsoft, Amazon or Google offer businesses numerous services for communication and collaboration, they struggle to meet current or future cybersecurity requirements due to their inability to maintain full control of the operating environment and establish a chain of evidence in the event of a breach of defence information.
