South Australia’s zoological gardens have enjoyed two big pieces of news this week, with Adelaide Zoo recognised at the 2020 National Architecture Awards and Monarto Safari Park welcoming a new baby rhino.
The new Variety Children’s Zoo and Sky Trail encircling the zoo’s central lawns were extended Awards of Excellence on Friday by the Australian Institute of Architects.
These installations are just some of the new additions to the Adelaide Zoo, which reopened to guests in mid-June following 12 weeks of closures for COVID-19.
Sister site Monarto Safari Park also welcomed a newborn female Southern White Rhino on Wednesday, named Umqali.

Adelaide Zoo is a Showcase SA member, and hosts July’s Industry Insights: Agribusiness with Rob Kerin and Professional Development and Training with Amy Springhall and Tamsin Simounds.
