Plush velvet lounges, gold-framed mirrors and low, intimate lighting set the tone inside one of Adelaide’s best-known distilleries newest offering, The Speakeasy.
The 1920s-inspired room, tucked away in the middle of Prohibition Liquor Co, has been transformed into an intimate, glam private event space. The space located inside the venue on Gilbert Street is being described as Adelaide’s only fully private speakeasy-style masterclass and function room, designed to host between 12 and 24 guests.
There’ll be no waiting in line for drinks, as the room comes with its own dedicated bartender and guests can choose from a range of curated experiences, including gin masterclasses, cocktail parties or even a glam dinner party away from home.
“It’s very much a make-it-your-own space,” Prohibition CEO, Adam Carpenter said “Suitable for corporate, suitable for private, the team can chat through what’s possible and keep it quite flexible.”
The room is made to bring a moody, cosy and effortlessly luxe atmosphere, with flexible set-ups ranging from stand-up cocktail style to fully seated dinner parties with small tables and soft lighting. While we love the main venue’s signature industrial edge, the speakeasy is offering something warmer, especially as we head into winter.
“Right through winter it’ll be super cosy,” Adam said. “It’s a place to sort of secret yourself away inside the distillery.”
The drinks list centres around Prohibition’s award-winning gins and Prohibition-era cocktails, alongside the obvious beer and wine options. Unlike the main bar, The Speakeasy won’t be available for casual table bookings, instead, it’s being kept as a dedicated function space.
“We’ve had enquiries for hens parties, and intimate birthdays, which is the sort of thing we’re going for.”
For regulars, it’s also a fresh reason to return.
“Lots of people have been to Prohibition before, so this is something new to do here,” Adam said. “Another reason to come back and hang out.”
The Speakeasy comes amid a busy period for Prohibition, following the recent launch of its Seppeltsfield distillery in the Barossa after renovations to blend old-world charm with contemporary design.
